Global commodity manager

Ervaring

2003-present

Global commodity manager (> 100 sites) / Manager indirect procurement EU (38 sites). Responsibilities: general procurement strategy formation, integration, purchasing process and strategic development. On ‘commodity group’ level: creation of purchasing strategies, execution, implementation & evaluation.

Manage a spend of over €150 Million in the commodity groups ‘packaging’ (Global), utilities (EU ~ steam, electricity & natural gas), waste (EU) & MRO consumables (EU).

• Achieved 10% EU reduction in Utility cost (hedging). Scope EU (> 30 sites).
• Achieved 11% global reduction in packaging cost (standardization, commoditizing & global tendering). Scope EU & NA (> 60 sites).
• Designed & implemented a new EU Utility procurement approach (scope ~ electricity, natural gas & steam) which provides internal business with a stable budget outlook on utility costs, utility pricing ‘below market’ to enhance business margin and full TCO (consumption management & use) cost reduction. Tool created to validate & negotiate steam purchase from local 3rd parties.
• +100% Margin increase on selling the (excess) steam produced towards local 3rd parties.
• Achieved 10 to 30% EU cost reduction on waste disposal cost using a full TCO view on all cost bearing elements of waste disposal. Local site surveys conducted in corporation with selected EU waste contractor (gain share model) to monitor local disposal chains & opportunities.
• Introduction within Hexion of ‘On line bidding’ (auctions) as tool to procure CAPEX items. Various auctions designed (>30), created and performed (CAPEX, packaging & MRO consumables).
• 20% cost reduction on EU MRO consumables (auction) by focus on standardization & de-branding.

Development of innovative procurement strategies:

• Introduction of ‘timing’ combined with ‘hedging’ as a new feature within ‘commodity management’ to optimize ‘price’ within EU Utilities.
• Introduction of ‘cross business margin management’. Procurement effort on aligning our ‘commodity cost’ with our sales price development. So a shift in focus from ‘what price we pay’ towards ‘when do we pay this price’ within EU Utilities.
• Introduction of ‘full TCO waste management site surveys’ to improve local site based waste management, reduce full TCO cost and prepare for a possible partial outsourcing of waste management. Pilots run in Portugal, Spain, Germany & The Netherlands.
• Introduction of a ‘life benchmark’, run on an Internet auction (online bidding) platform to ‘benchmark’ the TCO reducing capabilities of various MRO consumables suppliers. Focusing on cross EU de-branding, standardization, PtP process, source time reduction, logistics, warehouse cost reduction and item price… Auction consisted of 500 questions. Auction duration 2 weeks.

• Commended for innovations, having a TCO scope, ‘out of the box’ solutions, best practice approaches and involving the right people at the right time, tenacity and structure.
